UV glass vs full glue tempered glass: which to buy

UV glass is stuck down with liquid glue and a lamp; full glue comes with its adhesive already on. What each one is for, and why most phones need no UV at all.

Short answer: for a flat or gently rounded screen, buy full glue tempered glass. The adhesive is already on the sheet, it goes on dry in a few minutes, and nothing can leak into the phone. UV glass exists for screens that curve steeply down the sides, and even there it is a trade: it covers the curve, but it is a messy job you get one go at.

What UV glass is

A UV kit is a sheet of tempered glass with no adhesive on it, a small bottle of liquid glue and a small UV lamp. You spread the glue over the screen, lower the glass onto it, let the liquid run out to the edges, then shine the lamp on it until the glue hardens. Because the glue starts as a liquid, it fills the bend of a curved screen instead of bridging it, so the glass bonds all the way to the edge.

What full glue means

A full glue sheet has its adhesive already on the glass, across the whole face rather than a frame round the edge. You peel the backing, line it up by the cut-outs and let it settle. Because the whole sheet is bonded, there is no air gap over the display — which is what keeps an in-display fingerprint reader and the touch working as before. When a listing says "non-UV" or "without UV", this is what it means.

Where UV glass makes sense

On a phone whose display rolls steeply down the sides. Rigid glass cannot follow that bend on a dry adhesive alone — it springs back and lifts at the corners — and liquid glue cured in place is one way to hold it there. If covering the very edge of a curved screen with glass matters most to you, UV is how glass gets there.

What it costs you

The glue is a liquid until it is cured, and a liquid goes where it likes. Too much and it runs into the earpiece, the speaker grille, the buttons or the frame; too little and it leaves a dry patch that shows as a bubble. It has to be cured fully under the lamp before the phone is used. And taking a UV sheet off later means cleaning hardened glue off the screen and its edges.

Full glue is a ten-minute job you can redo with the next sheet in the pack. UV is a job you get one go at.

The third option on a curved screen

Glass cut to stop just inside the curve. It covers the flat face, where most knocks land, bonds with ordinary full glue, and leaves a fine border at the bend. Nothing to cure, nothing to leak, and the corners stay down because the sheet never reached into the bend. That is how we cut for curved phones.

"Universal" glass

Some UV kits and plain sheets are sold as universal: one sheet for a list of phones of about the same size. Two phones can share a screen size and still differ in corner radius, cut-out position and how the edge curves, so a universal sheet rarely lines up exactly on any of them — a gap at one edge, a cut-out half covered at another. A sheet cut for your one model is the one that lines up.

What we sell

Full glue tempered glass only, cut for each phone model: flat sheets for flat screens, and sheets that stop just inside the bend for curved ones. We do not sell UV glass. If your screen curves so steeply that you want the edge itself covered, a film — like our front skins — reaches further round the curve than glass can, at the cost of most of glass’s protection against knocks. We would rather say that than sell you a sheet that lifts.

Questions people ask

What is UV tempered glass?

A tempered glass protector fitted with liquid glue that is hardened under an ultraviolet lamp, instead of adhesive that comes already on the sheet. The liquid fills the bend of a curved screen, so the glass bonds right to the edge.

Is UV glass better than full glue tempered glass?

Only on a steeply curved screen, where it lets glass cover the curve. On a flat or gently rounded screen, full glue does the same job with no liquid, no lamp and nothing to leak into the phone.

What does non-UV tempered glass mean?

Glass with its adhesive already on, usually across the whole sheet (full glue). You peel it and stick it — no liquid glue and no UV lamp.

Can UV glue damage my phone?

It can get where it should not. Liquid glue that runs into the earpiece, speaker grille, buttons or frame is hard to get out once it has cured, so use only what the kit asks for and keep it off the edges.

Does UV glass work with an in-display fingerprint reader?

When the glue layer is even and fully cured, yes — the reader sees through a bonded layer the same way it does with full glue. A bubble or a dry patch over the reader causes the same trouble any air gap does.

Is universal tempered glass any good?

It is cut for several phones of about the same size, so it rarely lines up exactly with yours — a gap at one edge, a cut-out partly covered at another. A sheet cut for your exact model does the same job and fits.

Do you sell UV glass?

No. We sell full glue tempered glass cut for each phone model; on curved screens it stops just inside the bend so the corners stay down.
